Nick's home

Nick and his family moved into this 4 meter wide, 3 story house in the beginning of 2011. When they moved, the house was already performing rather well with regards to energy intensity, but nonetheless they made some additional improvements. For instance, they started by isolating the roof with isofloc, unsold newspapers that are cut in small pieces and treated with some salt. Nick and his family’s energy consumption is now less than half of the average for Flanders. They have a great, long garden where they are starting to grow some of their food. They have potatoes and chicken for the moment. They have also been very creative in finding sustainable solutions for the interior, with mainly second hand and upcycled material.
